On 11 December, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary challenged the government to announce the general elections by 20 December and warned of the immediate dissolution of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial assemblies if the matter is not decided by the deadline. He asked the PDM to “put forward a final formula” for the snap polls and said that the process of the elections would be completed in the two provinces by 20 March. Further, he said that the leaders of the “imported government” do not intend on holding elections and that they do not know “how to run the country.”
Chaudhry furthered his objection towards the coalition-led government and emphasised that the country “needed” political stability which was not in contention with a stable government and that the PTI has the “complete support” of their allies in the matter. This comes as the PTI has a majority government in KP and a coalition government with the PML-Q in Punjab, with the PML-Q being cautious of their stance in light of the current political situation before dissolving the assembly, but also “whole-heartedly” support Imran Khan’s plan of action. PML-Q’s leader, Moonis Elahi asked Imran Khan “to be mindful” of the PML-N’s coalition government for further delays of elections through “technicalities.”
PDM and other ministers condemn Imran Khan’s ‘lust’ for power
The PDM’s ministers lashed out at Imran Khan’s “campaign” against the government and the institutions and said that Imran Khan’s ventures to remain “politically relevant” through such actions would yield poor results for him. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Imran Khan’s rising objections against the government to regain power would “never happen” and that every institution would “serve the nation” within the constitution’s framework. He said that the PTI government had not only “destroyed” the national economy but had also fared “negative narratives” of the country to its future generations.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari of the PPP said that the efforts of Imran Khan to dissolve the two provincial assemblies will “fail” and that his bid for the dissolution is “unconstitutional.” Along with other leaders bashing Imran Khan for his actions, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that Imran Khan was a “political terrorist” and that his quests against the government was “ironic.” (“PDM ministers bash Imran over his ‘lust for power’, Dawn, 12 December 2022, “PTI demands ‘plan’ for snap polls by Dec 20, Dawn, 12 December 2022)
